An MoU has been signed by Lloyd's Register, H2Terminals Limited, HiDROGEN, and D3IM, its supply chain partners, to evaluate the viability of an H2 infrastructure project in the United Kingdom. In addition to identifying regulatory needs, such as safety cases and risk assessments, for the establishment of an offshore island and supply chain that would offer green power to enterprises on the Thames Estuary and River, the parties will cooperate in the fields of floating production and transport of H2. A formal evaluation of technology, including asset design development, floating hydrogen production and floating energy export systems, is also included in the Memorandum of Understanding. The construction of other RE facilities 100 km offshore is one of the plans.

The shipping ministry is preparing a 15000 crore Rs viability gap funding (VGF) plan for companies to shift to greener vessels for inland water transport over the next 10 years, said two persons aware of the development. The Inland Waterway Development Council (IWDC) is working on finalizing the scheme for this green transition, which would be similar to the FAME scheme for the promotion of green automobiles. One of the people cited above, who wished to remain anonymous, said, "The concept of VGF and other incentives for turning Indian maritime segment green is under formulation and consideration."

The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of a Major Port at Vadhavan near Dahanu in Maharastra, a joint venture between JNPA and MMB. The Vadhavan Port will be developed as an all-weather Greenfield deep draft major port in Vadhavan, Palghar District, Maharashtra. The project, costing Rs.76,220 Crore, includes core infrastructure development, terminals, and commercial infrastructure in PPP mode. Cabinet approves road connectivity and rail linkage. The Project involves the reclamation of 1,448 hectares of area in the sea and the construction of 10.14 km of offshore breakwater and container/cargo storage areas. The Project will create a cumulative capacity of 298 million metric tons per annum, including around 23.2 million TEUs (Twenty-foot equivalents) of container handling capacity.

Wärtsilä, a technology firm, announced that four medium range (“MR”) tankers in the fleet of International Seaways (NYSE: INSW) will get its EnergoFlow and EnergoProFin propulsion technologies. By upgrading the ship's current Wärtsilä controllable pitch propeller system, the devices are expected to save five percent (5%) of the fuel. INSW will step up its efforts to decarbonise operations and keep up with its Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) obligations by lowering the fuel usage of these current MR tankers. According to Jan Othman, vice president of project services at Wärtsilä Marine, "the Wärtsilä systems chosen will not only meet and exceed the minimum required CII rating and IMO targets, but will also improve the ships' asset resell market value.

The International Chamber of Shipping and the Chamber of Marine Commerce, Canada held the Shaping the Future of Shipping Summit in Montreal, discussing global trade challenges and risks, including protectionism, geopolitical conflicts, decarbonisation, future fuels, and the importance of seafarers. The Summit discussed the unique challenges faced by the maritime sector, including the pandemic, strikes, global geopolitical conflicts, decarbonisation, human factors, and climate change. It highlighted the negative impact of increased protectionism as a major threat to global shipping.
