National Centre of Excellence in Green Ports and Shipping

In order to learn about the most recent developments and trends in the maritime industry and to ensure the chance to network with pertinent decision makers, this event will bring together experts and decision makers from a variety of sectors, including shipowners, ship managers, ship operators, government agencies, associations, etc. Some of the topics to be covered in the event include: recent developments in the global shipping market, focus on green ports, adopting practices of for turning net zero, alternate fuels like LNG that can be adopted for vessels, ensuring safety at the sea, digitalisation in the maritime industry, latest innovations in shipbuilding sector, improvement in ship design for future etc.

The leaders of over 60 seaports from different countries will come together for this year's conference to share their extensive knowledge and experiences in order to address the most important issues facing the port and maritime industries, develop workable solutions, showcase innovations, and pinpoint best practices. The agenda for the 2025 Port of the Future Conference is fascinating as well as extremely beneficial. The nine tracks of this event, which are pertinent to the port and maritime industries, include keynote addresses, case studies, panel discussions, interviews, and technological demonstrations. The tracks include- port development; decarbonization and alternate fuels; port energy & sustainability; carbon capture; ports in onshore wind energy; port technology and security.

This event focuses on the integration of digital technologies and smart solutions into port operations. As the maritime industry embraces digital transformation, this conference offers a platform for discussing how ports around the world can enhance their efficiency, sustainability, and security through innovation. As ports become more connected, cybersecurity becomes a critical issue. The conference addresses how to safeguard ports from cyber threats and the role of cybersecurity protocols in digitalized port environments. Ammonia is traditionally used in fertilizers but has emerged as a promising alternative fuel, especially in shipping, due to its potential to decarbonize various industries. The summit focuses on the role of green ammonia in the transition to a low-carbon and sustainable future, particularly within the energy, maritime, and agricultural sectors. The summit will likely discuss how ammonia can be used for carbon-free propulsion in ships and as an energy storage medium. It will highlight innovations in ammonia production, including the development of green ammonia (ammonia produced via electrolysis using renewable energy sources), and the technological advancements that make this process more efficient and scalable.

On February 27, 2025, the National Centre of Excellence in Green Ports and Shipping (NCoEGPS) Portal was launched by Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) , Shri Sarbananda Sonowal at the “Powering the Blue Economy – Viksit Bharat with Budget 2025” held at Trident Hotel, Mumbai. NCoEGPS, developed through a collaboration between the Ministry and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), aims to advance sustainable shipping and port infrastructure. The launch of NCoEGPS Portal, highlights the government’s commitment to environmentally responsible maritime growth and innovation in India’s port and shipping industry.

The conference themed "Sustainable Oceans and Coasts for Next Generations," aims to bring together experts from research institutions, maritime authorities, and industry leaders to discuss the future of maritime technology and the sustainable use of seas in Southeast Asia. The conference will feature discussions on sustainable maritime practices, technological advancements, and the role of Southeast Asia in global maritime connectivity. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in knowledge exchange and collaborative efforts to address challenges and opportunities in the maritime sector.

The event will include targeted panel discussions that will cover important topics like creating a baseline for green technology, incorporating non-traditional stakeholders, lowering the risk of funding access, and speeding up the adoption of green technology. By gathering perspectives from Indian and foreign players, these talks will promote cross-industry cooperation while also examining the financial and technological avenues necessary to meet these challenging goals. The event will evaluate progress and provide new solutions created over the last three years, building on the results of the 2022 Conclave.

The event includes eleven panel discussions, some of them include 'the future of maritime decarbonisation', use of renewable alternatives as fuel for shipping, securing maritime digital systems, practical solutions for sustainable maritime operations etc. The conference will give an overview of current market situation in the maritime sector, implementation process of IMO regulations and enforcement of the existing regulations. Updated Maritime policies in Europe will also be discussed. In order to turn carbon neutral, the conference will also educate about the use of renewable alternative fuels for ships like LNG, Hydrogen, Ammonia etc. and to switch to 'shore-to ship' facility to minimise GHG emissions.

Singapore is quickly becoming as a major marine hub by luring decarbonization projects and working to get ready for a multi-fuel future. This conference will talk about alternate fuels options for maritime sector. The conference will bring together important participants from various value chains, including port authorities, shipowners, charterers, technology, finance, regulators, storage, and terminals, thanks to Argus' strong expertise in the biofuels, methanol, ammonia, hydrogen, and LNG industries. As fuel options are yet to be determined, the conference will teach shipowners how to decarbonize at the appropriate pace and with flexibility while preserving profitability.
